Made For Each Other

November 27, 2011

This weekend’s wind up has been preempted by this breaking news bulletin. For those of you who haven’t heard:

A AND I ARE ENGAGED!!!

He proposed on Friday night and of course, I said yes! There isn’t a font big enough to describe how happy and excited we are!!

Here’s how it went down:

A few weeks ago, A suggested we go to a Christmas lighting ceremony in the town where he grew up. Since I love all things Christmas, I of course agreed.

So Friday after work we make the drive, chatting and singing along to Christmas music the whole way (well I sang. Though A did join in on Bob and Doug Mackenzie’s rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas).

We got there a tad early, before the opening ceremonies were supposed to start, so we walked around the park, trying to ward off the chill. Finally things were ready to get started and we found a good place up at the front of the crowd.

There’s the usual announcements at such events, and then Santa came on stage. And Santa asked if there was an “A” in the crowd (he said his full name, but I won’t use that here) and told him to come up to the stage.

My reaction was “uh” (really, it was. I had been recording up to that point and you hear me say ‘uh’ after they call his name).

A called out “Here I am” and started pulling me up to the front.

We get up there and I was all flustered and bewildered. What was going on?

The organizers handed A a microphone and he started chatting with Santa.

A knows Santa?

Santa asked A if he’s been a good boyfriend this year, to which A shrugged and responded, “I don’t know”.

So they hand the microphone to me.

ME!!

They ask the same question to me, if he’s been a good boyfriend and I lamely respond that he’s been ‘Great’, when in my head I’m thinking he’s awesome, that he’s changed my life. Why I couldn’t articulate myself, I don’t know.

And that’s when I turn around to get help from A, who had moved out of the way, putting me in the spotlight (there was a spotlight!), only to find he’d gotten down on one knee and there’s a box with a ring in his hand.

OMG! This time I exclaim “Oh!” (Seriously, what happened to my words? USE YOUR WORDS C!!)

He said “Christina, We were made for each other. We were made to spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me?”

I squealed out a yes, then told him he had to put the ring on my finger, haha.

It was perfect! I was taken aback, and it’s very hard to catch me off guard.

My ring is perfect! We actually went ring shopping a few months back (I didn’t tell you that, did I?) and I picked it out.

I knew he had it, but really wasn’t expecting a proposal until after the New Year. I was thinking around our anniversary. But nope, he had other plans and boy am I glad he did!

After the proposal, the lighting ceremony continued and the park was lit up with thousands of Christmas lights. It was magical. I was shaking for a good hour after, but we walked around for a bit before going for dinner.

Wow.

We’re getting married. I can’t believe how much my life has changed in the past year. I love A so much and have no doubts that he’s the one I want to grow old with and raise a family with.

Like he said, we’re made for each other.
