Newfoundland Day 4

August 24, 2011

This post may be sparse on the details. There’s a HUGE storm raging outside right now, which I’d normally be totally into, but there is a Tornado watch accompanying and I’m definitely NOT into that. I’m going to finish this off, then curl up in bed with the Weather Network 🙂

So our fourth day in Newfoundland was another beautiful one, though we woke up and spent the day with a band of fog across the bay. It was really fascinating to watch it ebb in and out of the harbour, but thankfully it stayed safely away during our afternoon drive to Dildo.

Yes, that’s right. Dildo. We Newfies come up with some interesting names for our towns!

One of my favourite moments was stopping into this flea market:

And finding a huge box of souvenir wallets that had “Niagara Falls, Canada” written on them. Nice.

After our drive and we were back in our home town, we decided to take a walk around the boardwalk. It was so quiet and peaceful, and the smell! So fresh and clean!

Hunger set in and we headed home to make dinner and were just in time for another sensational sunset. This time the fog added a really mystical quality to the pictures. Love!

And there ends our nice weather; the fog that had been threatening moved in overnight and decided to stay the rest of our trip! That didn’t slow us down though!
