Tarts

March 1, 2011

A and I discovered something dangerous last night.

After supper, we decided to take a walk up to Shoppers Drug Mart, a 15-20 minute trek. We tooted around there for a bit, picked up what we needed and left. We took another route home, which led us through the plaza that Shoppers is in. And that’s when we found it: a Portuguese bakery. A bakery people. With fresh bread and more importantly, fresh pastries!

Danger!!!

Of course we went in! We spent a few minutes chatting with the staff (the poor lady couldn’t understand A’s jokes. It’s OK babe, I thought they were funny!), and decided to try out the Portuguese Custard Tarts (aka Pasteis de Nata).

Holy baby cheesus. They were amazing! Sweet and custardy. One of my most favourite desserts of all time is Creme Brule, so it’s no wonder I loved them. I would have taken a picture, but we kind of ate them as soon as we got home and they didn’t last long. If you click on the link above, you’ll get an idea of what I’m talking about though.

Pros of finding a bakery so close to home:

1. We’re on the lookout for locally made/produced foods. This fits the bill!

2. You can buy individual treats, rather than a box full like you would have to get at the grocery store. This is good for portion control.

3. Yummy treats

Cons:

1. Yummy treats
